Frictional Damping of Rotational Motion

چکیده
1. The photogate, connected with the Smart Timer was set across the Main Platter, with one strip of paper taped to block the photogateonce in every revolution. The photogate was set in the Time Fence. The mass of the Main Platter M(kg) and radius of the Main Platter and its pulleys were measured with mass balance and vernier callipers. Then a string, with one end tied to a hanger with a 100 g mass, was wound around the second pulley on the Main Platter (but not tied). The mass was then allowed to fall with its initial height measured with a meter rule, and the Smart Timer was started as soon as the mass hit the ground. So the potential energy of the 150 g mass and its hanger was converted to the frictional losses (friction between the thread and the Main Platter pulley, so these depended on the number of revolutions that the string completed.) and the kinetic energy of the Main Platter. The relation is:

The nonlinear system becomes an area with numerous investigations over the past decades. The conventional modal analysis could not be applied on nonlinear continuous system which makes it impossible to construct the reduced order models and obtain system response based on limited number of measurement points. Nonlinear normal modes provide a useful tool for extending modal analysis to nonlinea...
متن کاملShell Effects on Rotational Damping in Superdeformed Nuclei
Damping of collective rotational motion in A ∼ 190 and A ∼ 150 superdeformed nuclei is studied by means of the cranked shell model with two-body residual force. Numerical calculations predict that in a typical A ∼ 190 superdeformed nucleus, Hg, the rotational damping width is significantly small, Γrot ∼ 30 keV, and that the number of superdeformed bands in the off-yrast region amounts up to 150...

The entropy generation analysis of non-Newtonian fluid in rotational flow between two concentric cylinders is examined when the outer cylinder is fixed and the inner cylinder is revolved with a constant angular speed. The viscosity of non-Newtonian fluid is considered at the same time interdependent on temperature and shear rate. The Nahme law and Carreau equation are used to modeling dependenc...
متن کاملMicroscopic Structure of Rotational Damping ∗
The damping of collective rotational motion is studied microscopically, making use of shell model calculations based on the cranked Nilsson deformed mean-field and on residual two-body interactions, and focusing on the shape of the gamma-gamma correlation spectra and on its systematic behavior. It is shown that the spectral shape is directly related to the damping width of collective rotation, ...

We discuss damping of the collective rotational motion in A ∼ 150 superdeformed nuclei by means of a shell model combining the cranked Nilsson mean-filed and the surface-delta two-body residual force. It is shown that, because of the shell structure associated with the superdeformed mean-field, onset energy of the rotational damping becomes Ex ∼ 2 − 3 MeV above yrast line, which is much higher ...
